On May 12 2006, The Avett Brothers performed at the Grand Opening event for the new club in Greensboro NC called The Flying Anvil. The club was owned, in part with other investors, by Pete Scroth who also brought The Avett Brothers to Greensboro for the first time at his coffee shop The Green Bean. While The Green Bean went on to host numerous live acts and become a Greensboro staple, The Flying Anvil was to have a short but glorious life. Pete would go on to become the Lighting Director for the Avett Brothers when they tour and the Flying Anvil became the stuff and stories of legend. By my best account, 3 times as many people claim to have been at this monumental show than the place even held.
Like I said, the stuff of legends. This poster came right off the wall of the club and has been stored (almost flat) for nearly 13 years.
It has tape-tear marks on the corners and the top right corner is bent and slightly creased. It is very minor and I have tried to dramatically photograph it for clarity. I believe, properly framed and displayed, it would be almost unnoticeable. I notified Pete that I had this poster (I was an employee) and asked if I could sell it.He seemed impressed one was still around and gave me his blessing, curious as to what it would bring himself. So here is a piece of Greensboro, Avett Brothers, and rock-n-roll history. Just food for thought on this rare item. Some other links for info. I don't know how to take that off.
